The Prime Minister highlighted the inspiring story of Raafi Ramnath, a teacher from Kerala, who successfully transformed a barren land into a thriving mini forest named Vidyavanam using the Miyawaki technique. What is the Miyawaki Plantation Method?

With this method, you may quickly create thick, unique, and self-supporting woods. Two to four specific native tree species are planted using this method in each square metre. Using this technique, the trees reach their maximum length in three years and develop self-maintenance.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has embraced the Miyawaki method to create urban forests in Mumbai. According to the civic body's data, 64 Miyawaki forests have been planted in the city so far. The Miyawaki drive was initiated under BMC's urban forest project on January 2, 2020. The implementation of the Miyawaki technique in Mumbai has received positive feedback and has inspired individuals, communities, and organizations to replicate this approach in other cities across India.
