It has been quite some time since I first picked up "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" by Taylor Jenkins Reid, but I've revisited this remarkable book at several times. In this age of the internet, where many people seem to have forgotten the joy of reading, I must admit that I wasn't much of a reader myself. I could barely manage to read ten pages a day, and sometimes I even forgot to do that.
However, this book was a game-changer for me. I devoured it in a single sitting, and it was an experience I can hardly believe I had. "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" is truly amazing; it immerses you completely in Evelyn Hugo's life, making you feel as if you are living it alongside her. You can't help but become emotionally invested in the characters, particularly in the love story of Evelyn and Don and the deep friendship with Cece. And yes, it does break your heart at times.
This book touched my soul in a way I hadn't expected. It made me realize why people often say that books can be your best friends. It's not just a story; it's a journey through all the emotions life has to offer. "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" was the first book that I devoured in one sitting, and it opened my eyes to the magic of literature.
Let's dive deeper into the book itself.
Certainly! Taylor Jenkins Reid's "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" is a gripping book that relates the story of a legendary Hollywood star named Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn decides, at the age of 79, to reveal her life story in a final interview with a journalist named Monique Grant, who is somewhat unknown in the field. This choice astounds everyone, including Monique.
This book revealed the bold truth about the character Evelyn and her life. Not everyone is ready for it. but she wants everyone to know her story on their own. So, she invited a journalist named Monique Grant. Evelyn shared her start in Hollywood in the 1950s with her exit from the entertainment industry in the 1980s. Along the journey, she discusses her seven marriages, which are an important part of her life story.
We learn about Evelyn's great resolve to succeed, unexpected friendships she meets, and a forbidden love she experiences as her story progresses. However, as Evelyn nears the end of her story, it becomes evident that her life is inextricably linked to Monique's in terrible and irreversible ways.
I do not know what the love between Evelyn and Cece was in the 70's or 80's. What I think is that people still have to hide. same of because they don't have courage, same of their family, or same of even don't know what to do. They have to hide what they love the most on this earth. but how circumstances couldn't want them to let them be. but their paths cross again and again. That made me feel that, really, love is hard to find. Evelyn finds love in her husband, Don, but the abuse in that relationship is ruinous for both of them.
Same of my favorite words from - Some Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
- “People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is 'you're safe with me'- that's intimacy.”
- “Never let anyone make you feel ordinary.”
- “I spent half my time loving her and the other half hiding how much I loved her.”
- “You do not know how fast you have been running, how hard you have been working, how truly exhausted you are, until somewhat stands behind you and says, “It’s OK, you can fall down now. I’ll catch you.”
- “Don't ignore half of me so you can fit me into a box. Don't do that.”
- “Sometimes reality comes crashing down on you. Other times reality simply waits, patiently, for you to run out of the energy it takes to deny it.”
- “Heartbreak is a loss. Divorce is a piece of paper.”
- “Please never forget that the sun rises and sets with your smile. At least to me it does. You’re the only thing on this planet worth worshipping.”
